EUCNC demonstration 2022

Fairspectrum demonstrated that DSA management enables spectrum sharing between Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) and a Terrestrial Network (TN) in the same frequency band so that the network coverage in the band is significantly increased, and none or minimal performance decrease is caused to the primary terrestrial network.

The problem to which this technology is developed for is that it is very difficult and slow to find satellite frequency bands which are suitable for providing 5G, B5G or 6G broadband connectivity. On the other hand, many terrestrial capacity bands are deployed only in urban areas.

Terrestrial Network can be selected from drop-down lists by Operator, Region and Technology.

The Non-Terrestrial Network consists of two satellites, each with 91 beams. The study area is located inside the satellite beams. All presented results are related to the study area and the selected combination of Terrestrila Network Operator, Region and Technology.

The DSA system optimizes the satellite beams so that they do not cause harmful interference to Terrestrial Network.

Without sharing only Terrestrial Network coverage is present.

In –6 dB I/N sharing, NTN can fill coverage gaps.

The coverage can further be enhanced when the TN and NTN operators cooperate, which presented in 0 dB I/N sharing.

When interference is not managed, all NTN beams are active and they cause harmful interference to Terrestrial Network.
